CUANDO YO MUERA

Cuando yo muera…
No quiero que llores…
Sino mas bien que te alegres…
Ya que estaré en paz…

Cuando yo muera…
Quiero que sigas de pie…
Y no te dejes caer…

In Loving Memory of Jorge Cesar Gasson Carlos 1976-2010

Cesar was born on April 12, 1976 in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico; he was the youngest out of his 4 other siblings, he loved to dance and his favorite color was blue. Cesar was a beautiful human being; he was a happy person, he almost never got mad, and he was a major dog lover! Everyone who met Cesar would totally fall in love with his personality; he was very outgoing and made people laugh.

Cesar had many friends and he was always willing to help those who needed of him. Cesar was there by my side in the worst of times; he helped me cope when I was going through my brain tumor. With his words of inspiration of keep fighting, never give up, God is going to help us, I fought through!

Cesar and I met in Denver, Colorado on May 28, 2005 when I was down there for my cousin’s high school graduation party. I was only in Denver for 3 days; in those 3 days he never left my side, even though I would not sleep with him; he spent those nights on my mother’s couch. When the time came I would come back home he was eager for me to stay! I told him I could not stay, but that if he was serious of us having a relationship we could get to meet each other by phone, and we would see what happened.

A week after I came back from Denver, I got ill and found out about my brain tumor. I decided to move to Denver to have my surgery, we moved in with my mother since I needed someone to care for my son Alexandro in case something happened; if I couldn't make it through the surgery.

When we arrived to my mothers house there was Cesar outside of my mothers parking area with all of his things, clothes, and even his dog; I asked what are you doing?; he said I am moving in with you guys, I want to be with you, I want to be by your side and help you through this because I have fallen in love with you. After one month of knowing each other he moved in. I loved him very much, I thought I would always be by his side; we spoke of getting old together, having more kids, and seeing our grandchildren grow up.

Alexandro loved him very much; he saw him like a father, as he did him as a son. We were a family. About 3 months after we moved in with my mom; we moved out and got our own place, we stayed there till 2007; this is when we moved back to Albuquerque and he decided to follow us in the move. We were together for 4 years until one day he decided to move back to Chihuahua.  I don’t know what gave him this instinct and he left without telling me anything. He called me at work to say goodbye when he was already in El Paso, TX. I felt my world was going to tare apart; I cried many nights, I missed him so much, but there was nothing I could do; it was he’s decision.

A month later after he left it was now May, on May 2, 2008 I found out I had cancer. I still felt awful of losing someone I truly loved and now on top of this I had cancer and felt all alone; I didn’t know if I was going to make it. Cesar found out and even with him being far away, we loved each other and he would call me to make me strong; having him far away was really hard on the both of us, but there was nothing we could do. He was not a legal citizen and it would take time. Alexandro and I went to see him at Chihuahua in July of 2008 right after one of my surgeries; I got ill on the bus, but I didn’t care because I had to go so we could get married in order for me to be able to bring him back, but none of our plans went through. Cesar and I only got married by word; we put our rings on and promised each other to stay faithful to each other until the day came when we would be together again.

A week after I came from Chihuahua, I left to Denver for a second opinion; here in Albuquerque they were not giving me any hope to fight my cancer and was told I could die, so I packed a suit case and left on the bus. After my surgeries, I came back home once again to Albuquerque, and the calls between Cesar and I slowly were drifting away; every time I called he wasn’t home, Cesar and I were drifting away. I felt as though he was never going to come back.

I called and explained I didn’t want a relationship of just one call a month and that I needed more of him; that I was going insane of not knowing nothing about him, especially after knowing the stories on the news and the violence that was going on in Chihuahua, Mexico. Time and time went by, and less and less I knew about how Cesar was doing.

In September 2009 Jesus got really ill; his mother Lupe, Alexandro and I went to Matachic, Chihuahua, MX to see him; this man was the love of my life since I was 14 years old and the father of my son, I had to go.

Have you ever been in love with 2 people at once?

I didn’t think it was possible, but it is! I loved both of these men very much, but I loved Jesus even more. When I was with one I always thought of the other. I went to see Jesus and saw how ill he was and how much he needed of me; we made plans, but those also didn’t come through because he passed away on October 13, 2009.

After Jesus’ death Cesar tried his hardest to help me cope with the pain, but I was in so much pain I would not listen! He would email me to make me understand Jesus was in a better place and that I had to understand he was no longer here. I would not understand I was in too much pain, all I wanted to do at that point was die; but Cesar would never give up; he kept pushing to make me feel better.

Life is ironic, I was the one who wanted to die, and now he has lost his life! Cesar was full of life; he loved his life, and it has now been taken away by idiots who only believe in violence. Chihuahua’s situation right now is awful; the mafia is controlling everything and going to businesses to charge money in return of not burning them down.

Cesar boss refused to pay this quota since it was he’s own business; there was a drive by shooting because of this and on June 29, 2010; five workers were shot, and Cesar was shot twice on the back; he didn’t survive! I can’t believe it, I am in shock; he never got into any problems, never hurt anyone, and now they have taken his life!

This makes me terribly angry; he wanted to live, he wanted to get married, and to have kids, and now all those dreams were taken away from him. The last time I talked to Cesar was on April 12, 2010 when I emailed him to congratulate him on his 34th birthday; he was very happy to hear from me and blessed me as he always did and wished for me to be happy in everything that I decided to do with my life. Goodbye Cesar, now you’re in heaven with Jesus, and I am still here trying to cope with the pain of knowing you are both now gone!

Jorge Cesar Gasson-Carlos April 12, 1976-June 29, 2010

R.I.P you will be missed by all of us who loved you.

Cesar when I was in pain after Jesus died you asked me if I would cry if you died; this is your answer! I loved you too, I loved you with all of my heart, and Alexandro is also full of sadness to know who he saw as a father is no longer here! God rest your soul “Mi Chelos”.

From the ghetto to the Westside!

Since I can remember, my family and I lived in the ghetto; don’t get me wrong we were not dirty people, let me define ghetto. For some living in the ghetto is opening cans with a knife instead of a can opener which I had to do a lot of times. I love being a Mexican because we always find a way!!! Viva la Raza… LOL

Anyways, yes I am proud to say I was fortunate to have those ugly ass Medicaid glasses when I was a kid because we were too poor to have the pretty, classy ones; the important thing was I could see! If you had Medicaid in the 1990’s then you know what I am taking about.

(The mobile home)
I was fortunate to have the welfare cheese, damn was that cheese good! We were poor, but fortunate to have food on the table even though it was beans. The clothes I owned was either from the flea market or yard sales; man I remember those times! I hated getting up at 5am on the weekend to go to the damn yard sales. My parents would get the paper and look for the good yards sales in which we used to say the rich lived LOL, but I was fortunate to have clothes on my back. I have to admit that when I found an outfit that was so pretty, I felt like a princess; yes it was used but it was now mine.

At times my parents were so poor striving to make a living, Santa would not come, but guess what if I got lucky; he would come the day after Christmas in a Salvation Army bus with lots of toys and a basket of food, man that was like the best feeling ever; it wasn’t a slay but it was Santa Clause.

I had lived in a mobile home for as long as I could remember, until a couple of months ago I still lived in the same mobile home in which I grew up in and which is almost close to dust because it is falling apart. But you know what? I wouldn’t change my hardships, at times I actually thank God for them because they have helped me appreciate what is important.

My family never ever had new things, our furniture, dishes, clothes, etc. you name it, it was either from the thrift shop, flea market, or yard sales; but yet we were thankful for what we had.

Now I have been blessed with a mansion!!! That is what our new home is to me, a mansion, and yes for the first time in my life I have a NEW couch; it was in layaway for a several weeks and had to make several payments before I could finally bring it home, but it now sits beautifully in our new home.

(The NEW couch)

The dishes are still the same ones because I had a box that I had been saving to open for when the day I bought my house finally came; let me explain!

When I worked in retail at Foleys at the mall, things would fall down in price when they were discontinued and I would put them on my Foleys credit card if I was lucky to find the opportunity. At times being a single mom, it was hard to do that, but life is a risk, after 9 years of them being boxed up they now sit in my new house kitchen cabinets.

Retail is a hard and dirty job, and I used to complain about it when I left, but know that I think about it working there was a blessing because I was able to get the deals after the season was over. I would wait till summer was over to buy my son summer clothes for the following year, I would buy them big so when summer came again; he would be set. I did the same thing with winter. I used to get brand named clothing for my hijito, at times for $1 each. That was the bonus of working there; the down fall was I only got paid $6.50 hr. and worked like a dog. Worked random hours, never had weekends off, and hardly got to see my son; he was practically always at daycare!

This is why I decided to go back to school, to show my son the importance of education and that if you don’t have it life will be harder. One day I was sitting in my USED couch that was handed down to me from three generation thinking, Cristina you can do it, you can make a difference and give your son the life you never had. My son has always been the weapon of me being were I am now, and you know what? I’m still not done, there is still much more to do.

Those who have never been poor will never know the hardships and the feeling of having something other than beans for dinner. I am blessed and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love my life and I am thankful for what I have learned because I have character, courage and the strength to tell people to fuck off if I need to; I will have great stories to tell my grandchildren, that is if I make it there.

Now at 27 years old I have been blessed with buying a new house! It’s not a new model, but it is mine, and it is not a mobile home located in a bad neighborhood. I have had to strive and work hard for what I have and I wouldn’t change it for the world because I can say I did it on my own even while being a single mother! So no one can tell me shit.

(The NEW home)

If you didn’t go through at least a few things I mentioned, then you were RICH in my eyes and you will never see what it truly is to appreciate not having anything. Even with that we were considered Middle Class because there are worst things in life, and everyday I pray for the hungry in Mexico and around the world who don’t even have a piece of bread to eat or clean water to drink. So do I consider my self blessed? Yes I do! So if I was finally able to buy a NEW couch after the shit I been through in my life, I hell ass have earned it, and I didn’t ask anyone to buy it for me!!!

(The USED dinning table)
Oh and before I forget, the dinning table is complementary of my dearest best friend “Lluvia”. Thank you my sista, it looks great in our kitchen, I love you and I know that your childhood was way harder than mine. You had to pick the fields out in the hot sun while still being a kid. That is why we are who we are now! We do share one thing in common though; both of our mothers had to deal with our alcoholic fathers. God bless these women for their strength and will power to raise us kids even through the worst of circumstances.Viva the Ghetto and thank God for those wonderful times because they have made me who I am.

Sex and the City 2

Last night I set my alarm for 8:30 am so I could get up to get ready and go to the early bird viewing of Sex in the City 2.

My boyfriend hogged the bathroom for so long, I kept on yelling hurry up, I need to take a shower!!! Nada the man would not come out, maybe he didn’t want me to go, but I was determined! Come on I have the entire Sex in the City collection including the movie, and soon the new one too when it comes out on DVD of course, so I am going Mr.!!!

I left the house at 9:54 am and the movie was starting at 10:15 am; I got there at 10:07 am. I was hauling ass on the freeway, but I made it. I want the movie now, and so ready to watch it again, ah I want it now!

Every time I watch a scene from Sex in the City, I want to find a love like that, something that is true love and full of passion! Like what Jesus and I once had, I really miss that. I am not going to ruin the movie for you, all I can say that it was awesome, and I didn’t want it to end. I miss being in love and feeling that passion.

Yes, Like Carrie said, all relationships are different and can set up their own rules, but the relationship in which I am in now is missing the spark, and the passion. I guess because the LOVE is just not there! How do you tell someone who loves you, you have tried, but it’s just not working out?

I miss wanting to kiss and touch with passion! It’s an awesome feeling to hug and kiss the man you love; instead I’m doing the run around and feel like yelling and running off screaming! On my way back home from the movie theater, as I was turning onto my street, this handsome Mexican cowboy put down his window and threw me a kiss while nodding his hand hello; I smiled and flirted back. I was flattered and loved the attention! This also makes me realize that I am not happy with my relationship, because if I were, I would not be interested in other men I see in the street. What to do? I guess it will all be decided in time, I just hope it is sooner than later.

He Exists...

Every morning I listen to my Spanish station on the radio "Recuerdo 106.3" while I take a shower and get ready. I love listening to my Spanish music while I get ready; it makes my morning more pleasant and it gives me a boost to start the day.  Normally the radio announcers say stupid things that just make me laugh; or they say something in which I know is wrong, and I end up arguing with the radio. Me arguing with the radio makes my son totally crazy; he says, "mom who are you arguing with?", and all I can say no one babe, I'm just fighting with the radio.

Today something they shared with us truly touched my soul, and it stayed in deep down; it even made me cry while I was putting on my eyeliner. They shared a story of a little girl that lives in Mexico. This couple lived in Mexico and were atheist; they had a daughter and never talked to her about religion, Jesus, or God.  At the age of 5 years old the little girls parents had an argument in which lead her father to kill her mother then committed suicide right in front of her.  The girl was put up for adoption. A lady who was not able to have children took her in, her adoptive mother put her in catholic school. On her first day of school her adoptive mother explained to the teacher the little girl's parents were atheist and she didn't know you Jesus was and to please have patients with her.  The class started and the teacher pulled out an image of Jesus and asked the class raise your hand if you know who this is.  The little girl raised up her hand; the teacher asked, "sweety you know who he is?'  She responded, "I don't know who he is, but he was hugging me on the night my parent's died." Hearing this story gave me chills of happiness.  I have never seen him either, but I know he is real and that he has helped me through the worst of situations. The faith in our hearts is what gives us hope each day!  God bless you.

A Ghost between two worlds...

I'm sitting here thinking about my past and the great loss I have experienced, and in which I can not get over. I can not hide the pain, I can not love no more; I am just kidding my self. I miss my Chuy with all my heart, I think about him everyday and can't help feeling sad. I know everyone says I should move forward, but I can't. Even though I now have a boyfriend I can not love him; I have tried and I just can't!

Everything around me reminds me of what is no longer here and I can't confront this pain, I just want to stand up and scream to the top of my lungs. I know I can not stop feeling this pain that is killing me inside, but I know deep down it is going to end up hurting me more and more. Without notice I end up saying his name or remembering something he said or did and I don't click until I have already done it.

Maybe I am crazy, but the other night I felt truly sad remembering the good times and the great love we felt for each other. In the middle of the night while I cried myself to sleep, I felt a hand touch mine, I opened my eyes and no one was there, I closed my eyes once more and felt a hand caress my forehead. That touch felt like Jesus, I wish he were here. I miss him so much; all I can do now is pray for his soul to rest and for the pain to ease and for God to give me the strength to keep going forward until the day when we can be together again comes. I know we will be together again in heaven just that the wait is to hard to bare!

Psalm 27:1
